{"id":134,"date":"2008-08-20T16:00:10","date_gmt":"2008-08-20T14:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/la-ex.net\/?page_id=134"},"modified":"2025-02-05T17:49:34","modified_gmt":"2025-02-05T15:49:34","slug":"que-son-los-oxcars","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/xnet-x.net\/en\/los-oxcars\/que-son-los-oxcars\/","title":{"rendered":"About the OXcars"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Barcelona, one week as World Capital of Shared Culture<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Grand oXcars Ceremony, the event that will change the history of culture<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/xnet-x.net\/en\/get-in-touch-for\/the-oxcars\/\" target=\"_blank\">The oXcars<\/a>, the Show<br \/>\nThe oXcars, it&#8217;s evident<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">1500 assitents, more than 200 Spanish and international participants from all areas of culture has take part in an awards ceremony and a week full of events, pooling their efforts to demand a stop to culture being treated as merchandise by royalty management organisations and cultural industry lobbies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">To demand protection and a stop to artificial restrictions applied to digital media like P2P platforms that make it possible to spread knowledge &#8211; in the name of democratic progress that benefits each and every one of us.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nOur access to knowledge is blocked in the name of &#8220;artists&#8221;, but the majority of artists in the digital age don&#8217;t support the restrictions and neither does civil society, accused of &#8220;piracy&#8221; wholesale. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Artists say &#8220;Not in my name&#8221; to the commercialisation of culture, &#8220;Not in my name&#8221; to Spain&#8217;s &#8216;canon digital&#8217; (digital levy), &#8220;Not in my name&#8221; to limiting the potential of digital media.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Backed by the document \u201cGreed Breaks the Sack\u201d, released through hundreds of online forums and the press and sent to 287 politicians in July 2008, the OXCARS are an extravaganza, a week of events that will make it patently obvious that the culture of our time is the culture that we all build, share and enjoy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Times have changed; the Internet allows information and culture to be exchanged horizontally among all citizens. And the means of cultural production must adapt to this new democracy, not the only way around.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Because free and collaborative culture is the Culture of our time, because it\u2019s a fact, because there\u2019s no turning back&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>EXGAE &amp; Conservas present:<br \/>\nThe awards that will sweep the Grammys, the Goyas, the Max&#8230;<br \/>\nThe 1st non-competitive awards in the history of Culture&#8230;<br \/>\nThe 1st international Culture awards held in the shared digital society&#8230;<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The OXCARS<br \/>\neXcellence means sharing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Sala Apolo- Barcelona<br \/>\nOctober 28, at 8.30pm<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>7 hours of non-stop free culture<br \/>\nNew attitude<\/strong><br \/>\nA free culture extravaganza that isn&#8217;t just our response to the latest attacks on freedom in the name of intellectual property, but also a chance to popularise and share <strong>&#8220;good practices&#8221;.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The activities share unexpected links. This isn&#8217;t the usual protest event, there&#8217;s no discourse or &#8220;pedagogy&#8221;. We could say it&#8217;s a show of the strength and relevance of collaborative culture, through evidence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Fun, content and impact.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The artists themselves will pay to liberate their \u201cimprisoned\u201d works from the SGAE.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">It\u2019s not just economic dividends that are at stake, but the whole way of understanding culture and the right to access to information (which has cost us a couple of centuries of struggles).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Culture comes about through imitation and copying. In the digital and communication age, our digital information and our forms of communication constitute our memory.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Civil society demands the &#8216;lost profits&#8217; of all the knowledge that is being withheld and stolen from public use in the name of private profits.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We\u2019re bringing down a monopoly.<br \/>\nWe don\u2019t want to nurture generations of cultural parasites; we want culture to be alive and productive.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">THE ISSUES:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8211;    Culture in the digital age: new \u201cprofitabilities\u201d<br \/>\n&#8211;    The creative ecosystem in the digital age: now or never<br \/>\n&#8211;    Digital information is what today\u2019s memory is made of<br \/>\n&#8211;    Copying and its benefits<br \/>\n&#8211;    Lies, bits, the inquisition and P2P<br \/>\n&#8211;    13 000 000 pirate households: piracy doesn\u2019t exist, parents are the pirates<br \/>\n&#8211;    Banning communication in the communication age<br \/>\n&#8211;    P2P: Do we really want to follow in the footsteps of Pakistan, China, France and Sudan?<br \/>\n&#8211;    Let\u2019s talk about the middlemen: restructuring in times of crisis.
